She did really well. There were no real distractions yesterday except for a few dogs barking madly from behind the fence. Today we met a lady on a bike and a jogger. She was still interested in them, but was much more interested in the treat that was in my hand. No jumping or lunging, just perky ears and watching them.
Thank you!
PaulaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6517697125324333905.post-11333018421552396292013-04-22T06:48:13.936-07:002013-04-22T06:48:13.936-07:00Thanks Sherri, I have to remember to put those tr...Thanks Sherri, I have to remember to put those treats in my pocket when we head out. Our walk this morning was an awesome one, but we saw only one dog, and he was on the other side of the blvd. She cried a bit but stayed by my side.
PaulaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6517697125324333905.post-68195650204222481692013-04-20T12:06:02.976-07:002013-04-20T12:06:02.976-07:00I've also had to call out numerous times "...I've also had to call out numerous times "she's not friendly" to people in our local park because their off-leash dog runs up to us. It just ruins my nice walk. I used to avoid the park if dogs were off-leash but I have just as much right or more right, since it's actually against the bylaw here to have your dog off-leash. I have one friendly and one not-so-much haha so I know it's nice to let them run but some people think they can run free in the whole area.Bethnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6517697125324333905.post-65756500506264684042013-04-20T09:58:54.585-07:002013-04-20T09:58:54.585-07:00Paula, instead of shortening up quite as much, sto...Paula, instead of shortening up quite as much, stopping and sitting try shortening without her noticing to about 2' then pull out the most delicious treats ever and stuff them in her while walking past. If you need to get some distance do that. Elsa always looks to me for a treat if we walk past a dog and she minds her own business. It is a very good behavior to teach, not all dogs will be interacted with.
Sherrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08589104200839188087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6517697125324333905.post-48258074348147985532013-04-20T09:06:37.034-07:002013-04-20T09:06:37.034-07:00Rory acts like a nutball when she sees another dog...Rory acts like a nutball when she sees another dog when we are on a walk. Not mean, just, "OMG! It is another dog, they must want to play with me. I must lunge and give them some of my awesome crazy love!" As soon as I see another dog, or I see her ears perk in interest. I shorten her leash to less than a foot so she has to walk by my side. I also stop and make her sit until the dog passes. She is usually good, but cries. I would hate for her to lunge and cause another dog to react to that or give anyone a scare. She does calm down if the other owner lets their dog approach and go through the bum smelling routine.
PaulaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
